Guest List

Here is the guest list by the stage of life that I know people (and within that, no particular order).

Parents

My parents Maureen and Dave-I'm pretty sure you have all met them! Unlike my 30th party I won't be making them stay in the kitchen to serve the food. I couldn't ask for better parents because throughout my life they have encouraged me to just go for it (whatever it is!) and then enjoyed getting involved in being part of the adventures I've ended up in (from teaching my Japanese brownies how to do the hokey kokey to dancing to the Jersey boys in San Francisco with MPI to taking a bus load of Americans to FC United while I was at Dave and Catherine's wedding!)

School Friends

This was the team of people that got me through an all girls catholic school, where we were told off for speaking to boys at school functions but encouraged to go on the annual pilgrimage to Lourdes which was a combination of beer, prayer and caring for old people (it can't be understood unless it was experienced!)

University Friends

This was the team of people who were my family during four years of megabops and scrapbook making (vital for an MA and honorary doctorate!) at St Andrews and who still faithfully gather every December to celebrate Christmas together (although our days of being told the police would be called unless we eat our pudding quickly and make less noise are well past!)

Team Management and Leadership Programme Friends

This was the team that were part of an intense personal development course with me and gave me the space to love my leadership skills (from bossy to empowering!), and play big with those skills to make a difference in the world from football to female leadership.

Work Friends

This is the team that daily take brave and creative action so that all events around the world have a positive social, economic and environmental impact. A more inspiring group of people you won't meet and they have super powers in being able to translate the jumbled words that come out of my mouth into what I really mean!!

MPI Friends

This is the team that are part of the 17,000 plus global event community - most importantly they are my secret super support team (for everything from wardrobe checks to speech advice) during my chair year and for the last ten years have created all sorts of adventures around the world from cigar parties in Krakow salt mines to turtle spotting in Hawaii!

Manchester Friends

Americans I found in Manchester who once lived in Austin- a geographical mixture which means we get along fantastically!

Virtual Guests

While I have all sorts of lovely friends around the world who could join virtually it probably wouldn't be too much fun for them just seeing us having a good time.

So the virtual friends are limited - firstly there is the Hoopers who are like my family so I can't imagine a party without them. Due to time zones and the distance between Australia and the alcohol at the party Tia and William are the only children invited.
